  INTRODUCTION The Work of God in Guinea-Bissau BAFATA   "But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace" (Galatians 1:15). In the year 1932, the then director of the WEC-International Mission, missionary Norman P. Grubb, was deeply touched by the Spirit of the Lord with great weight by African countries with as yet unreached peoples. Moved by the spirit of compassion and motivated by the love of souls, Norman Grubb placed on a large bulletin board a map of the African continent, focusing on nine countries, including Portuguese Guinea. Daily in the prayer room the team looking at those targets would cry out to God for pioneers raised up to go and plant churches in these areas so deprived. The Gospel reached Guinea-Bissau in May 1940 through a British missionary, Bessie Fricker; thus beginning the evangelization of Guinea-Bissau.   PHOTO ALBUM Evangelical Church of Bafatá, in 1986 Pastor José Ferreira, founder of this Evangelical Community, baptized eighty new believers in the waters of the Geba River for the honor and glory of the Lord Jesus, the only and sufficient Savior. Thus beginning a journey of victories that still persists today, from Bafatá several witnesses came out to the world that Jesus is the only savior. The Evangelical Church of Bafatá grew in its region, expanding into various sectors, and it continues to grow in the name of Jesus.

      THE FIDELITY OF GOD             One day after returning from the Fula village where I was evangelizing, I thought about God's faithfulness. He had said when I was still in Brazil. "I will break the bronze doors." And now looking back I could see how many doors the Lord had already broken.                  I remembered the first day I set foot on the Bafatense floor. He had gone there accompanied by some Guinean brothers who resided in the capital. We take with us pamphlets with biblical portions and messages in the dialects of Papel, Balanta, Fula and Mandinga. Our aim was just to "spy on the land".             Some white colleagues had already tried to discourage us. THE PROVIDENCE   It was really time to change, but we didn't realize it. In fact, the hall was already too small to house the church, especially on Sundays when many were satisfied watching the services, standing outside looking out the windows. We had only been there for a few months, although we had a two-year lease, and we had paid six months' rent in advance. What we really wanted was to settle there in that little corner of heaven and spend day after day feasting with the Lord Ours, who lives and reigns forever. Until one day the owner of the house where the church was meeting came and said: "I'm going to sell the building, and you have to leave for another place." Our reaction was immediate. We said we had a two-year contract, and we had nowhere to go. If we really had to leave, we wanted a deadline of at least two months. He said, "I'll give you two days."
